It is finally fall. As a Floridian living in the Midwest, this is undoubtedly the season I appreciate the most. I love the cooler days, cozy nights indoors, and the shimmering landscape of bronze, pink, copper, and blush tones. Not to mention the pumpkin-spice lattes. What I also love about fall is its style and aesthetic. Fall fashion is simple yet sophisticated, and makeup is no exception. Today I’m sharing my favorite makeup products and application tips for a simple, sophisticated fall makeup look.
Skin Preparation
On freshly cleaned skin (see my DIY cleanser here) I apply a pea sized amount of Weleda Skin Food Cream. This cream is ultra-rich and sometimes feels a bit thick for my face, so I often add two drops of jojoba oil to thin it out as I rub it into my skin.
I give it a minute to soak in, then apply my favorite sunscreen, TIZO, which doubles as a primer. This sunscreen feels like rubbing velvet on your skin! It is SPF 40 and contains Vitamins C and E. It lasts all day and is fairly sweat-proof. I’ve been using it for 14 years. I cannot recommend it enough. Get yours here. (Note: this is very tinted, but the color lightens up as it is rubbed in. There is an untinted version, but the titanium dioxide leaves a ghostly sheen on your skin. That’s OK if you apply foundation afterwards, but if you just want to use the sunscreen, stick to the tinted version).
Foundation
Next, I apply Loreal’s True Match liquid foundation, which leaves a lightly textured, powdery finish on my skin. My color is natural ivory, which does a great job of covering the redness in my skin. AND it’s only $5.00. I pour a dime-sized amount into my palm and use my fingertips to rub it in. I use a brush to set it with Physicians Formula Mineral Wear powder, which helps minimize fine lines. A little of this goes a long way, and it has great coverage.
Highlight & Contour
As I have gotten older I’ve started to get dark circles under my eyes and my favorite, favorite concealer is bareMinerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer . It also works great as a highlighter under the eyes and on the forehead. I swipe a little under my eyes and between my eyebrows and pat it with a damp sponge to blend it in. It’s like a miracle worker (that makes me look 5 years younger)!
Next it is time to contour! Physicians Formula Magic Mosaic Multi-Colored Custom Face Powder is an excellent matte bronzer that I like to use to contour my cheekbones and jawline. I don’t use much because I have a tendency to overdo it, but I love how chiseled it makes my face appear. (Contour is an easy way to hack sophistication without looking like you are trying too hard!)
Eyes & Brows
Now it’s time for the shimmery fall colors. The New Nude Eyeshadow Palette is a great blend of light and dark colors that mix together well and don’t fade. Blink and Passion blend together beautifully to match my favorite sweater, and Umber topped with Chrome is perfect for a night out. You can get the palette here. Don’t forget to use your favorite brow gel-a new discovery for me-for bold brows. Those never go out of style.
Lips
Lastly, lips. I can’t do without my Burt’s Bees chapstick. The variety pack is great because they are all pretty delicious (except strawberry–no thank you). Lipstick is optional. I don’t have a recommendation because I so rarely use it. You do you!
